New York — Riverwatch Cinemas opened its new West Village moviehouse this morning at $3.5 million for a new best-of-three weekend, according to estimates.
The new Riverwatch Cinema is one of two theaters that opened this morning in New York City.
The other is the Cinema at the Plaza at Six Flags Over America.
The New York Times says that the Cinema is opening at $1.7 million for the weekend.
Riverwatch has also opened in Los Angeles this morning, with the film’s first two days.
The Times reports that Riverwatch’s third day was a record-breaking $9,898,000 for a three-day debut, which was just $30,000 short of the previous record for a film opening in a new theater.
The Cinema’s first three days grossed $19,094,000.
Riverwatch opened in August as a limited release at the Village Cinema, which is now a three stop mall with an outdoor theater and a cinema.
It’s a new location for Riverwatch, which has now opened in over 100 locations across the country.
The first two Riverwatch films were released in limited release in February 2018.
The company plans to open at the New York-based Paramount, where it will have a limited theatrical release.
River watch’s next film is expected to be released later this year, and the first Riverwatch film, titled Riverwatch 2, will be released in 2019.
